Future Gardening Projects

Pruning, trimming and hedging at Stern Grove on 19th & Wawona Access

Mowing meadow,  Pruning, removing death leaves on Palms

Trimming and Hedging Shrubs

Digging basins for plants on a slope

This project is located between the Trocadero and the BBQ pits on Stern Grove, the images below show the work made on the slope which consisted in clearing the ground area by hand, shovels, spades and string trimmer from Ivy, debris, trash, roots, runners, grass and rocks. We removed Ivy from the trees as well.
Later the work focused more on the soil aerating, rotating and preparing soil to plant shrubs, coffe beans  and fuchsias.

Since it is a slope,  I made basins around the plants and created water paths to retain the water, birds are taking showers, plants are growing, it requires watering once a week.

Fare well old Magnolia

The trash truck hit the old Magnolia tree and got stucked
The driver tried to move it back and forth...
... Until the tree was broken
We called the tree topper crew and work with them in the removal of the tree

Mushrooms all over!

All over the parks  you can find diverse fungi, some people come harvesting them. This collection of pictures will soon add classification and  perhaps an available, natural source of food. Stay tunned.

Pulling ivy

The Ivy in Stern Grove is out of control!  It has grown beyond limits and literally is swallowing the trees, pathways and everything is under. I worked on a project removing Ivy from the main entrance to the park on 19th and Sloat, all the way down to  Trocadero. There are hundreds of trees that are covered by Ivy, most of them are eucalyptus, redwood trees and pines.
I unburied  stone walls and steps made in the original plan, great architectural work that was disappeared.
This effort requires a troop effort, plus spraying for the final eradication of this weed.   The blackberry is another plant grown out of balance, it also requires major control.

Widening fire road at Stern Grove

Widening fire road at Stern Grove
One of the auxiliar entrances to the park that begins from 21th and Wawona St, curving down all the way to trocadero, was shrunk easily from 30 to 50% and required tons of labor to bring it back. The marks on the images below, show the extend of the invasive materials that were removed . On the ground level, soil, Ivy, debris, trash, etc. on the middle and higher levels, pruning trees, removing lots of branches. We used lots of muscle power, reciprocator, spades, shovels, scooped and filled the cushman with lots of loads of material, finally we blowed the whole road, people complimented us!

The white marks of the asfalt show the amount of clearing

The cut on the slope is about a foot depth

This one shows the "before" situation

Edging sidewalks at Larsons Park

Using Power edger I redefined the side walks of Larsons Park. The work was mostly done with the machine and spade. Later in a troop effort we collected all the cuts and trims, plus debris, trash etc. To finally blow it

Work at Pine Lake

The before and after Images, sample the extend of clearing, pruning and cleaning made around the main access to the lake. The branches of the trees were covering the entrance, grass was covering part of the stone walls, a drainage system was buried along with an old water level meter, black berry is invasive in the area.
